Free-Write Friday: July 11, 2014

Every Friday, I’ll offer an invitation for you to write for ten minutes to twenty minutes.

The only non-rule rules are:

1. Don’t worry about grammar and punctuation.

2. Once you put your pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard write without stopping. The key is to step out of the critical mind and thinking too hard or too much doesn’t allow this. Write fast and from the gut knowing you can scrap or shred whatever you write.

Remember:

  • You are the audience you are writing for. You are writing for you to get more connected with you.
  • It doesn’t matter what you produce. You might uncover some seed of a thought or gem of an insight or you might not.
  • Writing is like exercise. Doing it is good for you.

You Matter Mantras

  • Trauma sucks. You don't.
  • Write to express not to impress.
  • It's not trauma informed if it's not informed by trauma survivors.
  • Breathing isn't optional.
