What Hue Are You?

My first blog was about sea glass, adoption and healing. I kept the healing part vague. I hinted. I walked the edges of how much I would say. I’m so grateful to be able to be more open and honest now. And I also crave writing about other topics as well as healing. I feel that’s coming.

It’s beautiful and new. For so long I avoided, hid and wrote at the edges of what I wasn’t ready to say. I said other things, still true, still important but not the words pressing most deeply. For the last two years, I’ve been writing all that was held in me, stored, waiting, sometimes in fear or shame, sometimes just because it wasn’t time or I didn’t feel safe to share.

Now, I feel a neutral vibe. Maybe, possibly and actually I can write about any damn thing. Anything. And that feels like a healing. Because I’m not avoiding trauma or only writing about trauma. There are choices. There’s whatever fits and comes up and through.

So, for today, a piece less raw for the throwback series. This one is seven years old.

Mystery History: What Hue Are You?

from the old www.seaglassgirl.wordpress.com blog

Perhaps you found it on the shore line or lodged between rocks and shells.

It’s light purple, sugar coated white or deep green.

It’s your discovery and you don’t know the origin, the first shape or form.

Still you hold it, palm it and press it to your flesh.

Did it travel miles or decades?

Was it an exile or an explorer?

Was it floating away from an island or swimming towards this place?

Does it matter?

What hue are you today on this journey?maine 23

Are you resting as a vacationer on a calm bed of sand

or thrashing in the waves trying not to panic in a rip tide?

And do the answers matter?

Will you take that piece into your home no matter how little you know

because you love what you hold today?

You Matter Mantras

  • Trauma sucks. You don't.
  • Write to express not to impress.
  • It's not trauma informed if it's not informed by trauma survivors.
  • Breathing isn't optional.
