TV/So You Think You Can Dance / Links to Move You or Make You Move

Embodied. Emotional. Soulful. Stunning.

GET OUT OF YOUR MIND

This one, by Stitch and Alex, is one of my favorites. Although I share it to help you get grounded in the body, I love it because it says, “Get Out of Your Mind” and it has a pulsating and fast and furious energy which is channeled into art and is upbeat. Plus, the guy on the show, Alex was usually calm and quiet, talented and doing ballet so it was a super shift that was shocking.  You don’t need context to love it.

MAD WORLD

This one makes me cry almost every time and it’s VERY HARD for me to cry. Often, what moves me is the contrast between ugliness and beauty and here, the music and dance go so well together. In dance, the way we are connected to one another is made so much more clear than the numbed out way we pass one another in daily life. My father is a homeless alcoholic veteran. I’m sure that impacts my viewing. But this music is amazing. Tears.

Fix You

So much love. This one gives me chills. In strength and vulnerability the movements are so beautiful and the relationship so sincere.

I dance like Elaine on Seinfeld but I don’t let that stop me. I bounce. My arms are stiff and awkward and I never know what to do what them. But I dance. You can’t not feel happy dancing. Usually. So, even if it’s in your house alone and you’re just tapping a foot, let yourself move. Or watch others move and feel moved by that.
