Know the Score: Adverse Childhood Experiences & Adult Health

To learn more about the ACE study and test, come to this Sunday’s event at the Heal Write Now Center. It’s data, research and personal sharing.

Yes, it’s super serious. But it’s also validating and hopeful because I’ve interviewed experts on what those of us with high ACE scores can do to improve our health. Beating ourselves up doesn’t help. But there’s lots we can do. We’ll cover that too!

ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) & Adult Health / Know the Score

Sunday, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Next: Jan. 31st. Cost: $29.00

How can your parent’s divorce, drinking or decades ago abuse have anything to do with present or future chances of lung cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, obesity, premature aging and early death?

Well, the answer is a great deal.

“Folks who are exposed in very high doses have triple the lifetime risk of heart disease and lung cancer and a 20 year difference in life expectancy,” said pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris in a compelling TedTalk on the subject. Exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACE) “affects brain development, the immune system, hormonal systems and even the way our DNA is read and transcribed.”

“The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study is something everyone needs to know about,” Burke Harris said. I’ve been obsessed with this study and test since I’ve learned about it a few years back. For personal and professional reasons I’ve researched it extensively.

In this workshop, you’ll take the test (privately) and learn your score and about the facts and stats. I’ll share my own findings, feelings and stories as well as some of what I’ve learned interviewing, studying and corresponding with amazing researchers, healers, writers and survivors  such as Dr.  Vincent Filetti, Rick Hanson, Lisa Vasile,Carol Redding, Michele Rosenthal, Zabie Yamasaki and Sebern Fisher. The health risks are real but we are not powerless.

Come learn about how the past may be impacting your present and/or the lives of those you know, love or work with.
