Free-Therapy Sunday / What I Wish I Knew Sooner

This is easier to see on Pinterest or Facebook.  How does anyone clean their house, swing on a hammock or cook while managing social media? I do not have this system down yet.

I WILL LEARN! Anyhow…

Let me save you a few decades of healing if you are starting out. I know we can’t go back in time, childhood or early adulthood. However, if I could, I wish I would have realized the importance of learning all I could about health, wellness and self-care… the things we didn’t learn when we learned all those coping techniques to deal with abuse, trauma and neglect.

It’s not that understanding and validating pain isn’t important. It is! It’s not that understanding family cycles, addictions and toxic relating aren’t important.

However, learning the emotional alphabet and the basics of self-care is much more helpful for present-day survival and “thrival” for both me and my daughter.

I need to really practice the self care, OFTEN, that I’m teaching my daughter about or she won’t believe my words.

The sitting still and stopping and being gentle is a challenge.

However, this work is far less grueling than other kinds and as rewarding. Self-care and self-compassion are not “once and done” ideas but constant and daily requirements like multivitamins.

And the good news is that it’s interesting and satisfying and learning a new language and way of being stuff.

That’s my free-therapy share. It only took me decades to learn and I’m still learning!

Happy Healing!
