Adverse Childhood Experiences & An Adult Dose of Hope

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) & An Adult Dose of Hope   1:00–3:00 pm

How can decades ago childhood adversity impact lifelong adult health? What does the divorce, addiction, mental illness or trauma endured by a parent have to do with current heart disease, diabetes, stroke, obesity, premature aging and early death? Well, the answer is a great deal.

“Folks who are exposed in very high doses have triple the lifetime risk of heart disease and lung cancer and a 20 year difference in life expectancy,” said pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris in a compelling TedTalk on the subject. “The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study is something everyone needs to know about,” she said.

Find out what the ACE study is and your own ACE score. Learn what experts such as Dr.  Vincent Filetti, Rick Hanson, Carol Redding, Michele Rosenthal, Zabie Yamasaki and Sebern Fisher suggest adults with childhood adversity do now to promote healing and health. This is an accessible take on complex research and data. It combines facts with art and personal stories. You will get copies of the ACE test to take home and share with others. Cost: Free (donations accepted but not expected).
