I’ve got a chance next month to speak with a large agency that serves 30,000 people who have in one or more ways been seriously impacted by trauma. And who have little or no money.
I believe the best thing that can be done when trying to help someone is to ask, “What helps you?”
This benefits me as well – being asked.
In personal settings or in professional settings – if someone is wanting to support my growth, development or goals it’s nice if we have a conversations.
Too often, I find this missing from organizations who claim to be trauma sensitive and to serve trauma survivors.
At this talk I’ll speak from my own experiences as a trauma survivor, writer and researcher of “all things trauma” and pull in comments and insights from the trauma survivors I’ve profiled who generously shared time and experiences.

My personal feeling is that the voices of trauma survivors are often missing from conversations about what trauma survivor most want, need or find helpful.
That’s what I’m hoping to contribute.

I want to remind people who are working hard, for little money and who also often have a trauma history that have done some great work and what’s been helpful, affirming and life-changingly wow. They might need resources or insights or tools you already have.
