A Broke Trauma Survivor Needs….?

I’ve got a chance next month to speak with a large agency that serves 30,000 people who have in one or more ways been seriously impacted by trauma. And who have little or no money.

I believe the best thing that can be done when trying to help someone is to ask, “What helps you?”

This benefits me as well – being asked.

In personal settings or in professional settings – if someone is wanting to support my growth, development or goals it’s nice if we have a conversations.

Too often, I find this missing from organizations who claim to be trauma sensitive and to serve trauma survivors.

At this talk I’ll speak from my own experiences as a trauma survivor, writer and researcher of “all things trauma” and pull in comments and insights from the trauma survivors I’ve profiled who generously shared time and experiences.

If you’re game – I would love your input as well.

If you are willing to complete any of the following sentences (and you can private message me) I would be so grateful.

When broke and post-traumatically stressed I most need…

When broke and post-traumatically stressed, I most crave…

When broke and post-traumatically stressed, what’s hardest is…

When broke and post-traumatically stressed, what always helps me most is…

I manage best when broke and post-traumatically stressed by ….

My personal feeling is that the voices of trauma survivors are often missing from conversations about what trauma survivor most want, need or find helpful.

That’s what I’m hoping to contribute.

AND, if there’s some memory or thought or insight or gratitude you’d be willing to share that would be wonderful as well.

For example, I’ll never forget the time when I was broke and post-traumatically stressed that (____ person) did/said/taught me/showed me…..

I want to remind people who are working hard, for little money and who also often have a trauma history that have done some great work and what’s been helpful, affirming and life-changingly wow. They might need resources or insights or tools you already have.

Thank you so much for your time.
