How you weave caring for your baby to what you missed. You made me tear up in a good way though. A reminder of my times caring for my now-adult son.

May we replace our adversities with advantages and pass those down.

Changing the paradigm with Advantaged Childhood Experience. Thank you.

Frieda:
THANK YOU for reading / commenting. I’ve thought and written a lot about the presence of absence but I’m thinking more, of late, about the absence of presence (my own, in my own parenting) as well. Cis

Jessica:
Thank you for taking the time to write to me, for reading all of my words. Your comment moved me. I had to come back today after reading it yesterday. THANK YOU!!!
You wrote: “Sometimes being a parent with ACE’s feels impossible. Tonight, though, it feels important. I feel important.” For me, that is the entire reason writing is worth it. I’m SO GLAD you feel like that. I do believe NOTHING is more important but that doesn’t mean it’s work or effort that our culture necessarily values (even in parents without ACEs), but it’s powerful that we can be part of generational change (when not freakin exhausting).

Hi Elizabeth (my Canadian counterpart / survivor-led advocate):
Thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing my writing (and supporting my work, in general). I like thinking about the opposite of ACEs. What does that mean and would programs, policies, services be different if we thought as much about who is at-risk and who is at-benefit? Plus, having folks with entirely different experiences share/educate/give advice (unless asked for) seems far less helpful than sharing stories and experiences and creating spaces where others can do the same and reflect (whether privately or in person).
Anyhow, glad we’re doing work together.

This definitely turns ACEs on their heads and provides insight into actual ACEs experiences.

I always love reading your writing; your honesty, talent, insight are refreshing and inspiring.
